Ayiti is a simulation game that was funded by Microsoft and designed by Global Kids’ Playing 4 Keeps program and students at South Shore High School in Brooklyn, NY and the game design company GameLab.
Global Kids developed two workshops with supporting materials for teachers and facilitators around Ayiti: The Cost of Life. Both workshops offer a number of actions for young people who want to make a difference in the real world around poverty. You can download the workshops and lesson plans and some supporting materials by clicking on the links below:
1. The first workshop and lesson plan is designed as a tool for helping youth process their experience after playing the game. Lesson plan 1 [PDF]
2. The second workshop and accompanying lesson plan can be conducted either before playing the game, as a way to introduce students to the game's issues, or after playing the game, as a way to help them better understand the links between poverty and access to education. Lesson plan 2 [PDF]
Supporting materials: Child Alert Haiti [PDF] Country map of Haiti [PDF] UN Convention on the Rights of the Child [links to: full text & youth friendly version]
