UN Transitional Shelter Plans

Latest Summaries: 100329_ShelterNFI_Summaries.xls
lists maybe 80 odd cities, and for each one what the before quake population & families was, and after quake how many of them in need of shelter of some kind, how many homes damaged or destroyed.
These estimates (excluding those in Quest) of considerable # people in the rural areas whose infrastructure was severely ruined by the quake
could be combined with the
over 1 million people in PaP who are now homeless,
and the 3/4 million to rural areas who are a very temporary situation, no solution.

Emergency Shelter 3W for greater Port-au-Prince area
This is a MAP showing estimates of #s of transitional shelters needed in which Haiti communities, and which NGOs have taken responsibility to get the job done.
124,483  total planned
  79,097 confirmed funded
Second of the 2 maps says the data is as of what the Gov of Haiti knew Feb 28, so there is a serious lag in data flow into reports distribution.

I have yet to see a plan that makes plain how the shelters can be built in the mud of rainy season in time to protect against hurricane season.  The light at the end of this tunnel may be seaport repair in support of serious relief cargo.

It seems to me that while various groups of people around the world are trying to help, many NGOs, and other folks first on the ground, continue to do things their way, which includes ignoring a lot of potential help.  The syndrome of needing to show to donors that money should continue to flow to them, because if anyone else gets any credit, maybe someone else will get some donations.

As usual, I download a fraction of the total flow to my home PC & from time to time share with people what all is there, offering to pass along to whomever might be interested.
