Wash 2-18-2010 Update

Having reviewed the WASH SitRep, the Haiti Epidemic Advisory System community would like to offer the following observations based on specific points made in the SitRep:

  1. In both Cite Soleil and Croix des Bouquets, we have seen credible reports of high levels of malaria, as confirmed by blood smear.  Medical personnel there have NOT seen increases in diarrheal illness in either adults or children, however they have been sensitized to monitor closely.
  2. Elsewhere in the greater PAP and other quake-affected areas, and in agreement with official reporting from the Health Cluster, we have not seen significant increases in diarrheal disease.  Everyone in the 180+ member community is sensitized to report.
  3. We are unable to confirm whether this action has been taken, but many of the public health trained members of the group would like to strongly encourage dedicated public radio messaging campaigns to support Hygiene's efforts.

Our community of interest stands in support of WASH cluster’s efforts and thank everyone for their hard work in what is an extremely challenging environment.
